Obeying Your Parents

Obedience is one of the most basic yet one of the most difficult lessons in life. When was the last time you practiced obedience? And when was the last time you broke the rules? It would not be surprising if you find disobeying easier than obeying. This is because you are human.

As humans, it is in your nature to break the rules and follow your pleasures. You have inherited a disobedient nature from Adam and Eve. That is part of your sinful nature. Remember that man became sinful because of disobedience. The bible said: “Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone… Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners.” But disobedience is not what man is designed for. God created man in His own image not for man to become disobedient of Him but to become His followers. Man was created to be obedient.

When God said in His Ten Commandments that children must honor their parents, obedience was automatically part of it. Honoring your parents means that you are acknowledging them as right and worthy before you. Honoring your parents means that you value them. And what can be the better way of showing how you value your parents than obeying and following them?
