All About Love
Love is a four letter word we hear far too often and even much more in the month of February. We might ask, “What is love?” There are all types of definitions scattered everywhere, from literature to science. We know not where it originally came from or how it came to be, but it is here and it exists within each of us.
What is the meaning of love in the Bible?
“Love suffereth long, and is kind; Love envieth not; Love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.” (1 Corinthians 13: 4-7)
The Bible also speaks about a different kind of love. The love that our Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ have for us is beyond measure. Charity is the pure love of Christ. One such prophet who speaks of this kind of love is Paul. He said,”Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.” (1 Corinthians 13:1)
No matter what achievement we gain in life; no matter how big, strong or smart we get, we are nothing when we do not have this crucial Christlike attribute. When we think about it, the Lord gave us so many rules. There aren’t just ten commandments, but a whole lot more that are mentioned and not mentioned, yet we know that is what the Lord expects of us.
It may be hard to remember and follow all these rules, but in our quest to become obedient to the Father and to come back to His presence, we only need to remember one thing, and that is to love the Lord with all thy heart, might, mind and strength and He will guide us safely home.
It may not be easy to love everybody and we may not be able to do it, but it is alright. The Lord does not expect us to be perfect but He does expect us to try. Let us all try a little harder to become His charitable disciples and spread the love of God in this season. Amen.
